Prostate cancer is the most common solid noncutaneous cancer and the second most common cause of cancer-related death in men. When prostate MRI is used as a pre-biopsy triage method, there is increased detection of clinically significant cancers, reduced number of unnecessary biopsies and decreased healthcare costs. To improve prostate MR image quality, participating facilities are supported in identifying and evaluating opportunities within protocols, patient preparation, the development of technologist skill, communication between radiologists and technologists, agreement on image quality and data collection and reporting.

ACR Learning Network Prostate MR Image Quality Improvement Collaborative

Problem Statement

Prostate MR image quality is inconsistent and unreliable, possibly leading to missed diagnosis of cancer and an inability to use the images in subsequent procedures.
