The depiction of disease processes by current imaging has advanced extensively in recent years. This exquisite identification of various abnormalities by cross-sectional imaging, particularly CT and MR, further emphasizes the need to understand the pathologic basis of disease as we are now often illustrating this correlation directly. Lack of understanding of the underlying pathology can lead to misinterpretation of radiologic images and the potential to overlook important complications.
