The American College of Radiology Institute for Radiologic Pathology™ now offers the Hot Seat Course – a two-day immersive experience focused on case presentation, diagnostic reasoning through expert-led unknown case discussions and rapid-fire question-and-answer sessions to help residents and fellows sharpen presentation and diagnostic skills under pressure.

“The Hot Seat Course offers a high-yield learning experience that places participants directly “in the hot seat,” and simulates the ways radiologists will need to present oral cases while strengthening clear, confident and well-reasoned case presentation skills,” said Priscilla Jennings Slanetz, MD, MPH, FACR, chair of the ACR® Commission on Publications and Lifelong Learning.

The course focuses on clear communication, clinical reasoning and confident decision-making. Sessions feature small cohort rotations through seven radiology subspecialties and emphasize a structured, efficient approach to case interpretation and differential diagnosis.

By the end of the program, participants will be better prepared to:

  1. Present radiologic cases effectively in a structured case-based discussion format, demonstrating clear communication, diagnostic reasoning and professional composure in a realistic, high-stakes learning environment.
  2. Assess individual strengths and areas for improvement by developing targeted strategies for ongoing learning and performance enhancement.
  3. Apply a structured and systematic approach to differential diagnosis formulation and case interpretation.

“Whether you are looking to enhance your interpretive and presentation skills or simply seek a focused learning experience, this course offers a high-yield, genuine opportunity designed to support peak performance when it matters most,” said Ana P. Lourenco, MD, FACR, chair of the AIRP Advisory Committee.
